MWC09 – Update 16/02/09

February 17, 2009

If  like me you are not in attendance in Barcelona this week, you will be using every form of communication to keep up to date with developments at the Mobile World Congress. From blogs, press releases and of course Twitter, these are a few of the key talking points I have come across.

Huawei reveals uPhone – Ok, thats not its real name, but many have reported on its ‘familiarity’…

Looks familiar no?

Nokia N97 Hands on – Despite the press release being released several months ago now, MWC was intended as the first chance for Nokia lovers the world over to have a play with a beta version of the handset. And the initial feedback is that it is a nice little unit…Click the image below for a link to a video.

Gigaphone announces partnership “Responding to market demand for an easier, more joined up approach to mobile advertising, Gigaphone Ochre is a vendor agnostic solution designed to provide brands, agencies and mobile operators with a holistic and simplified view of the advertising ecosystem. Launching with nine partners from across the advertising value chain – planning, creation, delivery and measurement, Ochre will tackle market fragmentation that is preventing the development of effective and creative digital campaigns”. Andrew Grill is Gigaphone’s Head of Business Development (and also a fan of this blog! :)) and you can read more about this development at Gigaphone on his own blog ‘London Calling’

Samsung reveals projector ph0ne – It is, yet again, another point that was highlighted in my dissertation from well over a year ago, and brings us a closer step towards the mobile device offering the ultimate multimedia entertainment package. And what about watching high quality TV advertising on the go, projected onto any service, that you can then respond to immediatley!? Exciting stuff.

Samsung projector phone brings the cinema to you...

These are just the few titbits I have pulled from many of the hastagged messages (#mwc) across the web, and am sure there are many more. Spinvox, the Samsung Omnia HD phone and Windows Mobile 6.5 are all yet to be properly explored but will get back to you once I have.

For a great summary of Day One (from someone actually in attendance!), check out this Engadget post. Another new Twitterer to follow today is @bvlad – constantly updating twitter with links, pictures and reviews from #mwc. Highly recommended for getting the latest.
