Follow Up: The Definition of Microtrend

February 2, 2009

In a recent post of mine about Microtrends, I predicted that we could eventually be paying PC software prices for mobile applications. I wrote:

“Whether its the ultimate banking facility or the latest and greatest game, expect to start paying PC software prices for your mobile apps.”

Its not quite there yet, but as reported by GoMo News today,  Apple is expected to create a premium section of the iPhone App Store dedicated to high quality games from major developers. These games are expected to cost between 10 and 20 Euros. This is on the back of ComScore announcing last week that mobile game downloads to smartphones grew by 17% last year. Its a step towards transforming the mobile device into the ultimate portable tool, and would not suprise me if updated versions of Microsoft Office software follows suit.

We can only watch and wait.
